Suicide hits home for me and I felt the need to do something about it. I lost someone very important and foundational to the person I am today, and wrapping my head around them no longer here physically still causes me grief. There will always be things I wish I had done or ways I acted differently but the reality is that I can only change the future. Being something that is avoidable it drove me to take action against it and initiate the change I am hoping to see.
Mental health affects nearly everyone, yet it is still stigmatized and silenced from our contemporary culture. I am hoping to do my part to destigmatize suicide and bring awareness to the vast expanse of mental health issues facing all of us. It's ok to not be ok.
I chose the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention for my fundraiser because they have a fully fledged campaign to systematically alter how we think about suicide and input measures to hopefully slow down the mental health pandemic, and work on the ground to help us all become better supporters for people in need.
I am a member of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention and Hike4Hope is an officially recognized fundraiser for the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention. To learn more about the awesome work that the do follow the link below.
Hi, I'm Austin and I love hiking.
I am raising money for Canadian Associated for Suicide Prevention for the entire year of 2021. Starting on January 1st and ending December 31st I will be tracking every kilometer I walk. A majority of these kilometers will come from my Great Divide Trail thru-hike starting in late June, of which I was selected to be a Blogger for TheTrek.co! The link to that blog is in the dropdown menu at the top left.
Please consider pledging per kilometer, I hope to hike 2000km and raise $10,000 for the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention.
